ELECTIVE APPLICATIONTo apply for a Urology Elective at The University of Western Ontario, we recommend you first visit the website of the Visiting Student Electives office. Should you have additional questions, please direct them to Liz Radford. The Residency Program Director can NOT appove your elective application. All applications MUST be submitted to the Visiting Student Electives office. ONCE YOU HAVE RECEIVED CONFIRMATION OF YOUR VISITING ELECTIVE:WELCOME TO YOUR UROLOGY ELECTIVE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN ONTARIO If you haven't already done so, take a few minutes to review the "What Is Urology" DVD. At the bottom of this page you will find a link to our UWO Urology Elective Student Manual for 2009/2010. Please review the manual prior to arriving to your elective. A directory of our current residents and fellows. Urology site specific schedule. This schedule will give you an idea of what you can expect during week one and two of your elective in the AM & PM. Dictation system instructions for St. Joe's and Victoria Hospital. You may or may not be required to dictate while you are here on your elective.
Academic Schedules You can find our academic schedules under the "schedules" link on the left hand side of our website. Once you receive confirmation of your elective, email Gail Evraire for your username and password which will enable you to access our schedules. Tuesday Morning Rounds: These rounds are held every Tuesday morning with a start time of 0645-0745. Please refer to the schedule for the location of rounds. Rounds are city-wide. Seminars: Tuesday seminars are immediately following rounds….stay in the same room! Wednesday Morning Schedules: These schedules are site specific. If you are at St. Joe's for week one of your elective, than refer to the St. Joe's Wednesday schedule. Wednesday teaching will take place in the Urology Conference room (unless otherwise noted). Teaching on Wednesday's at Victoria Hospital will take place in the Resident Library (unless otherwise noted). Journal Club: Our Journal Clubs are held the last Thursday of each month. If you click the Journal Club link, you will see the journal club articles (to be reviewed prior to journal club) along with details about the venue. You are of course welcome to attend Journal Club. Call Schedule: You are not required to take call during the weekend (unless you'd really like to). Check with the residents to see if there is a pager available for you to carry, if not, you can always check with switchboard and grab a loaner. You are not required to carry a pager. Evaluations: Hold onto your evaluation until you have had a chance to work one on one with some of the consultants. Leave your evaluation with the urologist you feel you have made enough of an impression on. All of our Urologists will be happy to complete your evaluation. Keys: During your elective, the Resident Library will be your "home base". You are welcome to leave your lunch and any other belongings inside the Resident Library. There is a Resident Library at St. Joe's as well as Victoria Hospital. Providing there is an extra set, you will be given a key to the Resident Library as well as a staff pass card which will gain you access to the back offices and the staff elevator. The Resident Library is equipped with a microwave and small fridge. When you arrive for day 1 of your elective, make your way to the St. Joseph's Hospital Urology Clinic located in the "B" wing on the 4th floor. Check in at the front reception desk and let them know you are here to see Gail Evraire. Following your orientation with Gail, you may be relocated to either Victoria Hospital or University Hospital. In order to maximize your elective experience, we may find it necessary to place elective students, clerks and off service residents at different sites. You can expect to spend a minimum of one week at St. Joe's and one week at either Victoria Hospital or University Hospital. It's important for all of our Urology Staff to meet and have a chance to work with you.....especially when it comes to the CaRMS Match!
